DescriptionWalter was born in Lincoln on 17th December 1880, enrolling at St Paul’s Missionary College at Burgh le Marsh in 1902, qualifying in 1906. He travelled to China for the first time in 1907 and returned to England in 1912 where he purchased a handloom and returned to China. At the end of the First World War he returned to Lincoln to marry Ethel Swallow and in October 1920 he was offered the post of Superintendent and sailed to Beijing with Ethel and his son John. He remained in China until 1938 working with the blind pupils, expanding the industrial workshops so the children could learn a skill and become self-sufficient.
