Lincolnshire poetry
Lincolnshire poetry has been collected since June 2015. See the 'Showcase' for more information.
David Robinson Lincolnshire Postcard Collection
In 2019 almost 10000 Lincolnshire postcards were added to the collection, which had been collected over many years by David Robinson OBE, Lincolnshire historian and editor of the Lincolnshire Life magazine.
This collection covers Lincoln, Skegness, Boston, Crowland, Grantham, Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, and details are gradually being added to the catalogue.
The originals an be viewed in the Zibby Garnett Library but due to copyright issues, a digital copy cannot currently be added to the catalogue record.
Brian Winston Library
Professor Winston (1941-2022) ended his distinguished career at the University of Lincoln and bequeathed his publications plus and extensive collection of material that reflected his interests and contributed to his views.
The dedications from international authors sending him copies of their work illustrate his influence in the field of media studies and demonstrate his wide interests.
Steampunk
Steampunk photographs and archival material are being added to the Special Collections, largely as a result of Lincoln hosting the annual Asylum Steampunk Festival but also from a tea duel and convivial held at the University. See the 'Showcase' for more information.
Daren Diss' collection of editorial drawings from the Independent
The collection contains over 350 illustrations from 2009-2013 created with a digital method and will be of interest to "students from illustration, graphic design, journalism, history, conservation, media and those concerned with the cultural impact of the relationship between word and image in news media."
Children's Literature
The small collection of children's literature ranges from 1834 to the 1970s; including alphabets, picture books and non-fiction. The earliest volume is Fables de J. de La Fontaine and we also have The Girls Own Paper 1878-1899, The Eagle 1950-1966 (incomplete) and some 1930s issues of The Schoolgirl.
Journals
The photojournalistic magazine Picture Post, some issues of Punch, The Yellow Book 1894-1897, several historic art magazines and Studies in Church History. The University Library also holds The Annual Register 1758-1854, The Edinburgh Review 1802-1929, The Quarterly Review 1823-1870 and The Cornhill Magazine 1860-1939
Other material is located in the Zibby Garnett Library due to its age and fragile nature, covering a variety of subjects such as a facsimile of the Thornton manuscript, The Yellow Book, copies of Punch, illustrations by Dore and William Morris, a small collection of children's books, the Eagle comic…
Lincoln Cathedral Library
Some modern history reference material has being relocated to the University Library to supplement the current history stock and is located in the Zibby Garnett Library.
The Special Collections catalogue holds information on some of the holdings of Lincoln Cathedral Library, which historically could not be displayed previously but is now available at Online Catalogue. See the 'Showcase' for more information.
